What is Neurology?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Neurology is the branch of medicine which centres on diagnosing and treating problems caused by the nervous system<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the Nervous System?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The nervous system is described as having two parts<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • the central nervous system (CNS)<\/strong>, which includes the brain and the spinal cord, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the peripheral nervous system (PNS)<\/strong>, which includes\n
      \n
    • the nerves which are found outside the brain and spinal cord, connecting the CNS to the limbs and the rest of the body; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • the autonomic nervous system, which controls functions like the heart rate, the breathing rate, the digestion of food \u2013 the things the body does automatically without our needing to think about them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      How are problems diagnosed?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Like every other scientific field, everyday observations begin the process of research. We notice differences and\/or problems which concern us and seek answers about the cause\/s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      There are many symptoms which are common to a range of disorders and\/or diseases and the role of the Neurologist is to test and analyse those symptoms and apply their expert knowledge and experience to accurately pinpointing the cause. Then they are able to advise us on the best ways to alleviate the problems we have experienced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
